What Trek Madone generation is my bike?
Not sure which generation of Trek Madone you have? The easiest way to tell is by looking at a few distinctive frame features – especially the area around the seatpost and top tube.
You can also check the bike’s serial number, usually found underneath the bottom bracket, where the crankset meets the frame.
Trek Madone Gen 6
The Madone Gen 6 has a more traditional-looking connection between the top tube and seat tube. Unlike the generations that followed, there is no IsoFlow opening underneath the seatpost.

Trek Madone Gen 7
Look underneath the seatpost and you’ll see a large triangular opening through the frame. Trek introduced this design as part of the Gen 7 Madone’s aerodynamic and compliance-focused frame concept.
Trek Madone Gen 8
The Madone Gen 8 replaced both the previous Madone and Émonda platforms, combining the low weight associated with the Émonda with the aerodynamic focus of the Madone.
It still uses Trek’s distinctive IsoFlow design, but the opening underneath the seatpost is noticeably smaller and more refined than on the Gen 7.
Another easy clue is the bottle setup. Gen 8 Madones can be paired with Trek’s RSL Aero Bottles and cages, which are shaped to work with the frame as an aerodynamic system.
Keep in mind that bottles and cages can be changed, so the frame shape is the more reliable identifier.
Check the serial number
Look underneath the bottom bracket, or compare the frame around the seatpost with photos of each generation.
